Two of the things I like the very best about running are the places my feet can take me and the people I get to enjoy the trails with. In this case, a special long-time friend and I ran a route in Tongariro National Park that I have been plotting for a while (if I ever made it back to New Zealand!). It involved about 8km off-trail and 25km altogether.
Under those clouds are mighty mountains. Majestic volcanoes in fact. The acclaimed peaks of Mt Ruapehu in one direction and Mt Ngauruhoe in the other. It so happened that this was the first day of rain in 3 months for drought-stricken New Zealand. Lucky the company was good and the views were still mighty fine 🙂
