The planning for this website began in a journal that I bought for this specific purpose. I plotted and planned, sketched and erased. It has been my pet project, my labour of love.
Early on I had three categories that I felt like all our adventures fell under. I didn’t want everything boxed and labeled necessarily, but it helped keep my mind organized and also felt that it would give you, my readers, a quicker way to find adventures that would be suitable to where you are at as a family. Those broad headings were Mighty Adventures, Mini Adventures and Parent’s Only Adventures. Today I feel a need to add a new one. Micro Adventures. Because really, they are our secret weapon to being an adventurous family. The micro’s are the outings that can be an everyday occurrence and give us all the skills and desire to go bigger and better. This is where our progression as a family needs to start and does start.
It is those hours spent throwing rocks in the river or lake. It’s the reward of playing in the dirt at the pumice pit at the end of a short bike ride. It’s walking a couple hundred metres from your house and walking the logs.
It might not seem significant, but these are the places that those mighty adventures are born from. Don’t under estimate the value of them. They too will be the secret weapon of your family’s pursuit of adventure.
